Managing Director of Investment Consulting

Location:  Southern CA (La Jolla, CA)


Our client is seeking a Managing Director of Investment Consulting (MDIC) for their office in La Jolla, CA.  This person will be the regional investment strategist of a multidisciplinary team that works with family office clients, with average net worth over $300MM.  This firm will consider relocating the right candidate for this opportunity. 

An individual with a successful and visible background in consultative investment management along with an entrepreneurial spirit, to be part of the “early stage” team for the San Diego and Southern California region, including Los Angeles and Orange County.  This national firm is one of the fastest growing and widely respected in the family office industry.  Their executive leadership, strategy, vision, and commitment to UHNW wealth advisory makes this a unique and rare business model.  The regional team consists of other senior consultants in disciplines such as legacy and multi-generational planning, governance, education, philanthropy, financial management, technology and reporting.  This is a highly collaborative work culture, and cultural fit is as important as investment qualifications and a slogan commonly used within this firm to describe their culture is “confidence, not arrogance”.  

The MDIC must have extensive background in investment management and advisory with UHNW client families and/or institutional investors (foundations, endowments, etc.).  It is crucial that the MDIC has a background as a consultative investment advisor managing UHNW or institutional client relationships.  Fluency with alternative investments is preferred and familiarity and experience with theme and impact investing is a plus. The MDIC will implement, monitor and maintain investment philosophy for an open-architecture environment including the development of the family investment policy, asset allocation, ongoing performance monitoring and evaluation, and will have extensive face-to-face interactions with UHNW clients.    

Experience and Requirements:
  • Minimum of 10+ years experience in a consultative investment role with demonstrated success in managing relationships with and delivering advice to ultra-affluent clients, business leaders and/or large institutional investors.
  • Investment advisory experience should include all aspects of the investment management process including objective setting, asset allocation and investment policy, strategy, implementation, and on-going monitoring and evaluation delivered within a multidisciplinary team-based approach
  • Experience in managing relationships with sophisticated and demanding individuals and/or fiduciaries with complex needs
  • Demonstrated experience in contributing to business development
  • Bachelor’s degree required; CFA designation and/or CAIA required.

>>Managing Director of Private Banking

Location:  Southern CA (La Jolla, CA)

Our client is seeking a Managing Director of Private Banking based in La Jolla, CA.  This is the lead private banker for a group that works exclusively with select family office clients.  This firm will consider relocating the right candidate for this opportunity.   

The Managing Director of Private Banking (MDPB) will be part of a multi-disciplinary team exclusively serving family office clients ($300MM+ average investible assets).  The MDPB will be the senior regional banker for San Diego and Southern California (including Los Angeles and Orange County) on the team and leader for all areas related to banking for their family office clients including:  lending, cash management, banking products, and services.  This is a sophisticated, client-focused role and the MDPB will be the regional expert and authority for banking services for this UHNW client group.      

It is imperative that the MDPB has a strong credit acumen and he or she must have comprehensive knowledge of structuring deals and will ultimately approve the underwriting content.   Applicants with a UHNW, or commercial, or corporate banking background is required.  They should have experience with a wide range of lending solutions including:  secured and unsecured loans, lines of credit, lending of $10MM+ (investments, purchase of aircraft, fine art, etc.).  The MDPB must have excellent relationship management skills and the ability to work with the team in bringing in new clients through business development efforts.

>>Wealth Strategist for Family Office Clients

Location:  Cincinnati, OH

Our client is seeking a Wealth Strategist (WS) to be part of a multidisciplinary team that works with family office clients with who have an average of $400MM in assets.  This position is in Cincinnati, OH and the client will consider relocation for the right candidate.  

This is a planning role and the firm’s business model, platform, and resources are among the most advanced in the wealth management industry.  The WS will work with a highly specialized multidisciplinary team comprised of leading experts.  The WS will be directly involved with long term tax and wealth planning strategies for UHNW clients, such as legacy and multigenerational planning, education, and philanthropy.

The WS will collaborate with a nationally recognized wealth sustainability team, a resource group with professional expertise.  This team spans traditional fields of accounting, tax, and estate planning with strategic skills and resources associated with family governance, family history, vision, and values development.  The WS will work closely with other multidisciplinary professionals to create wealth planning ideas involving tax, financial, and business matters while incorporating delivery of customized services in areas of family wealth stewardship, business succession planning, and financial education for client family members.  Candidate should bring a consultative, creative, and client-oriented mindset while able to function as a strong contributing member of an accomplished advisory team.

Location:  Pittsburgh, PA

Our client is an established and prestigious firm and consistently recognized as one of the leading firms in the industry.  They have developed a platform and business model or the HNW/UHNW client segment, allowing for highly customized solutions for these sophisticated clients.  The firm provides an encompassing, holistic scope of family wealth services including: investment management, estate and tax planning, business secession planning, governance consultancy, education, trusts, and philanthropy among others.  It is important that the candidate has extensive experience working with HNW/UHNW family clients; it is also key that the candidate has a good understanding of how to optimize an industry-leading platform and service model to serve the unique needs of these clients. 

The focus of the Wealth Advisor is new client business development and client relationship management.  The Wealth Advisor must have a demonstrated and proven record of successful new client engagement and a network of existing contacts and centers of influence in the greater Pittsburgh area.  It is highly preferred that he or she have an area of subject expertise relevant to family wealth client delivery (planning, investment management, trust, tax, etc.).  The Advisor should have a wealth consulting orientation as he or she will profile prospects and clients regarding their values, needs, and goals, as well as their full financial picture.

The Wealth Advisor is a senior leadership role at this firm, and will be responsible for providing an extraordinarily high level of service to all clientele.  The Wealth Advisor is expected to manage larger client relationships as well as to take the lead in developing new business.  It is imperative that the Wealth Advisor have excellent business development, relationship management, and teaming skills.  He or she must have an established external presence and contributions to the thought leadership of the firm will be recognized and implemented.  This firm offers an impeccable service platform and reputation, a tremendously talented team, and collegial environment.     
 
Requirements:
  • BA required; prefer graduate or professional studies; CFP, JD, CFA or other certification highly preferred 
  • Minimum 7-10 years of Wealth Advisory to HNW/UHNW family clients
  • Experience/expertise in multigenerational family client advisory highly preferred
  • Knowledge and demonstrated integration of solutions across wealth management disciplines.
  • Has a well known and expert external presence and established external Centers of Influence.
  • Proven ability to bring in new HNW/UHNW client accounts, and expand book of business
  • Able to work and thrive in a collaborative, team-centric culture
