Sr. Wealth Planner

Location:  San Francisco, CA or Seattle, WA

Our client is seeking a Senior Wealth Planner (SrWP) on a national planning team supporting their ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) division within a prominent, nationally-known financial institution. The UHNW division, exclusively services UHNW clients with net worths in excess of $25MM. The UHNW wealth management platform includes: open architecture investment management; personalized and sophisticated banking; estate, tax, trust planning and fiduciary services; governance and family education; accounting and bookkeeping, and other services depending on the needs of the family.
This is a truly exceptional opportunity, to be part of the “ground floor” and contribute to building the UHNW division of this Top 10 US-based financial institution. The executive leadership, strategy, vision, and commitment from the institution makes this a rare career opportunity for a talented and qualified candidate to make an impact and help develop the division to national prominence. This individual will be a part of a national planning team, and will be based in either San Francisco or Seattle.
By integrating both quantitative and qualitative elements into exercises, education and planning, the mission of the UHNW planning group is to help families and individuals flourish and secure a thriving legacy that is supported by their shared visions, values and talents. The national planning team supports the front office planning specialists to provide analysis, research, technical support and subject matter expertise in both traditional quantitative planning and non-traditional qualitative planning. In addition, the national team also provides thought leadership, education and research through speaking and writing. The national team participates directly in client relationships when requested but is generally in more of a support role.
Requirements include: At least 10 years of recent consulting, accounting, or legal experience, some of that with a major law or accounting firm structuring complex estate and financial planning transactions for clients with a net worth exceeding $10 million and directly advising clients on the same. Possesses ability to independently, analyze, structure, and review related documents. Possesses ability to independently address and provide solutions to administrative and tax issues in managing assets subject to such techniques. Familiarity with forming and operating entities typically used for estate planning purposes, including, but not limited to sophisticated trusts, LLCs and partnerships.

Candidates must have deep, multigenerational consultative experience in family advisory including: tax and estate planning, wealth planning/coordination, family risk management, family governance, stewardship and family education. The Sr.WP will work with the entire national planning team, including other wealth planners and wealth dynamics professionals, plus front office planning strategists and families as a subject area expert in estate planning, multigenerational planning, family governance, and trust and fiduciary advisory

The ideal candidate will have one or more of the following areas of specialization: philanthropy and foundations, business succession and governance, corporate securities (SEC Rule 144, etc), sophisticated insurance, international tax or asset protection. The candidate should have experience in and a passion for writing and speaking, and will be asked to provide at least two writing samples. Client relationship skills will be crucial in developing insight and understanding of the needs, planning, and dynamics of the family.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Minimum 10+ years Wealth Planning/Strategy with HNW/UHNW family clients
  • Minimum 10+ years Estate/Multigenerational Planning
  • JD or CPA (LLM or Masters in Tax preferred)
  • Wealth transfer knowledge/experience within context of HNW/UHNW
  • Specialized tax and/or legal knowledge preferred
  • Family business experience in planning or consulting preferred
