>>Regional Managing Director (UHNW MFO)

Location: San Diego, CA

We have been retained by a leading national multifamily office (MFO) to find a Regional Managing Director (RMD) for their San Diego office; additionally, RMG Associates has exclusivity for all candidate introductions.  The RMD will lead a newly established regional team serving ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) clients in the San Diego/Southern California area.  The MFO services clients with net worth in excess of $50MM with average client assets above $100MM. 

This is the new Southern California regional office for one of the fastest growing wealth management firms in the US.  The executive leaderships’ strategy, vision, and commitment makes this a rare opportunity for a talented and qualified candidate to have an opportunity to put his or her fingerprint on the development of the region and division to national prominence.  The MFO is building a platform and service model that is unique in UHNW family client advisory.  The platform includes: open architecture investment management;  governance and stewardship with focus on values-based planning strategies; family dynamics including education, psychology, family history/legacy; estate, tax, trust planning and fiduciary services;  personalized and sophisticated banking and accounting, and a range of other services that are customized to best serve the needs of each individual family client. 

The RMD will be “the face of the franchise” in the Southern California region.  Therefore, it is crucial that he or she have an existing and active network of UHNW clients and contacts and is well known in the industry in the San Diego and/or Southern California market.  Leadership and involvement in the philanthropic community is highly preferred.   The RMD will also hire and lead a team of professionals, each possessing an area of deep subject expertise with substantial, consultative experience with UHNW family clients.  

In order to best fit this firm’s unique culture, the ideal candidate is not ego-centric and performs best in a highly collaborative, collegial, team-approach model.  The talent and intellectual capital at this firm is exceptional and many have demonstrated “thought leadership” on a national level via publications, speaking engagements, academia, etc.  The RMD should be able to thrive in an environment working with exceptional people, with the ability to work alongside and direct highly trained and educated professionals.   

Minimum Requirements:
  • At least 12-15 years of UHNW family client leadership/advisory with consultative focus.
  • Extensive UHNW client and COI network in San Diego/Southern CA
  • Prefer advanced expertise that is directly relevant to UHNW clients (JD, LLM, CPA, MBA, CFA, CAIA, etc.), or a track record of working with these types of professional resources.   
  • Currently reside in the local area or have significant relevant experience and relationships in the region
  • Management and/or demonstrated leadership experience including thought leadership
